Stress is a common experience for many people now a days. Finding ways to manage stress is crucial for wellbeing. One unique way to help manage stress is cloud art. In this blog I will talk about why stress relief through cloud art is beneficial.
Power Of Art
Art has been long known to have some therapeutic effects against stress and anxiety. Rather you are painting, drawing, engaging in art can help you process feelings and express emotions. Creating cloud art has an inviting form of expression that encourages mindfulness and exploration.
- Mindfulness
Creating cloud art can invite you to be more mindful and present in the moment. As you focus on the shapes, colors and textures of clouds you become immersed in the present moment. This could be by looking up at the sky or on your canvas or paper.
- Connect With Nature
Going outside and connecting with nature is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. Natural environments can help lower hormones associated with stress and it also can help distract you from your worries. Taking a walk or hike and cloud gazing will do wonders!
- Beauty
Clouds are aesthetically pleasing and can evoke feeling of serenity. The simple act of cloud gazing can bring calmness and a mental escape.
Incorporating Cloud Art in Your Life
Start by sitting outside and observing the clouds, take note of the shapes, and how they change over time. Notice the colors, and how the sun reflects off the clouds.
If you bring along a sketch book you can start by drawing a cloud, you are drawn too. There is no need for perfection, just focus on the process and how it makes you feel.
Perfectionism is something that I struggled with and sometimes still do. If you find that you’re trying to be to perfect and not enjoying the process remind yourself that this is a personal experience, and no one has to look at what you have drawn.
If you’re into photography, you can take a photo of your favorite clouds for later use as a reference picture. It’s helpful to use a cloud finder tool if you want to focus on a particular area of clouds. You can find some examples here on Pinterest.
You could collect cloud photos or sketches and keep a cloud journal. A cloud journal would allow you to not only keep a drawing routine, but you could journal about your thoughts and feelings. It’s a good way to process your emotions and reflect back on them.
Prioritizing a routine for cloud gazing and drawing will help keep you grounded and mindful of your thoughts.
Lastly, in a world with a lot of noise and stressors finding an outlet for stress relief is crucial for your wellbeing. Cloud art offers a unique way to destress, and it also gets you outside and in nature. Look up to the sky and let the clouds inspire a moment of clarity and peace.
